Shanika Peterkin of Barton Named D2CIDA National Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Shanika Peterkin of Barton has been recognized as the National Player of the Week by the Division II Conference Information Directors of America (D2CIDA). This is the second consecutive week a Conference Carolinas women’s basketball student-athlete has earned the honor.
Peterkin earned the honor after being named Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 week.
A senior center from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Peterkin averaged 26.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game in three wins last week for the eighth-ranked Bulldogs. In Barton’s 91-65 conference victory over Chowan on Feb. 15, Peterkin finished her efforts with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. She followed that up by collecting 32 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, three assists and three steals in a 70-64 road conference win at Francis Marion on Feb. 16. Peterkin’s impressive week finished with the All-American securing another double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks, four assists and two steals in a 77-69 road conference win at King on Feb. 19. The honor as Conference Carolinas Player of the Week was her ninth weekly honor this season as she has also been named Defensive Player of the Week seven times.
Last week Lauryn Taylor of Francis Marion won the D2CIDA National Player of the Week honor.
