Carly Turner of King and Bailey Wilcox of Chowan Pick Up Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Carly Turner of King and Bailey Wilcox of Chowan were chosen as the Conference Carolinas softball weekly award winners for the week ending Feb. 27.
Turner was named the Player of the Week, while Wilcox captured Pitcher of the Week plaudits.
A senior from Springfield, Ohio, Turner finished King’s six games last week hitting .458 (11-of-24) with eight RBIs and seven runs scored. She had a slugging percentage of .833 and an on-base percentage of .480. In King’s 13-5 second game win over No. 11 Lincoln Memorial on Feb. 23, Turner started the game in the circle and went 4-for-5 with six RBIs and two runs scored. She hit two three-run home runs in the King victory. In total, Turner had five extra-base hits on the week on three doubles and two home runs.
A sophomore from Port Republic, Maryland, Wilcox stuck out 15 in 10.2 innings in the circle last week for Chowan. She held her opponents to a .139 batting average in her three appearances on the week. Wilcox struck out a career-best 11 in 4.1 innings in relief in Chowan’s 6-0 win over Frostburg State on Feb. 26. The next day, Wilcox pitched the final 5.2 innings to capture the win in relief in a 6-3 win over Frostburg State on Feb. 27. She struck out four in the contest.
