Jami Tham and Shanika Peterkin of Barton Repeat as Women’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Jami Tham and Shanika Peterkin of Barton have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball for the week ending Feb. 6.
Tham was selected as the Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Peterkin earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the sixth time. This is the fourth time this season the duo have swept the weekly honors.
A senior center from Arlington, Virginia, Tham averaged 23.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, two assists, 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game last week in leading the Bulldogs to three conference wins. On Feb. 2 she poured in 29 points on 13-of-18 shooting with 18 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in a win over King. Against Southern Wesleyan on Feb. 4 she added 18 points and 10 rebounds with three assists, two steals and a block in 33 minutes. She closed the week with 23 points and 10 rebounds with three steals and two assists in a win over North Greenville on Feb. 5. She finished the week 30-for-43 (70 percent) from the field, 1-for-1 from the 3-point arc and 9-for-11 (82 percent) from the charity stripe. This is her fourth weekly honor this season as she was also named Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 22.
Peterkin, a senior center from Virginia Beach, Virginia, averaged 19.3 points, 12 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.7 blocked shots and 1.3 steals per game as the Bulldogs improved to 19-1 overall and 15-1 in league play. In the win over King, Peterkin scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (four defensive) to go with five assists and a steal. Against Southern Wesleyan she netted 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds (six defensive), blocked three shots, dished out three assists and had one steal. She capped the week with 21 points, 14 rebounds (seven defensive), five blocked shots, two steals and two assists in the win over North Greenville. She tallied eight blocks, four steals and 17 defensive rebounds on the week. This is her seventh weekly honor as she was also named Player of the Week on Nov. 22.
