Conference Carolinas Places Seven on Inside Lacrosse 2022 Division II Preseason All-American Teams

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Inside Lacrosse (IL) announced its 2022 Division II Preseason All-Americans and seven student-athletes from three Conference Carolinas institutions earned the honors. 

Belmont Abbey had a pair of third team selections in defender Neil Lingerman and attacker Noah Haas. North Greenville was represented on the third team by attacker Thomas Cecere while short stick defensive midfielder Cam Webb and long stick midfielder Colin Courtney earned honorable mention accolades. Andrew Avarello of Mount Olive was chosen as the third team goalie while midfielder Lucas Shein was named honorable mention. 

A junior defensemen from Goshen, New York, Lingerman was a 2021 second team All-Conference Carolinas selection. He scored one goal last season, collected 23 ground balls and tallied 17 caused turnovers, the second-best mark for the Crusaders. 

Haas is a junior attacker from Gulf Breeze, Florida who earned first team All-Conference Carolinas honors last season. He led the Crusaders with 48 points on 37 goals and 11 assists with a .638 shot on goal percentage. He also had 22 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. 

A redshirt junior from Grand Island, New York, Cecere is the regning Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year and was a 2021 first-team All-Conference selection. He also earned USILA All-South third team honors last season as he scored 44 goals and dished out 20 assists with 11 caused turnovers. 

A native of Clarence, New York, Avarello is a two-time USILA All-American goalie and earned several accolades last spring headlined by his Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year honor. He was a first team all-conference selection, first team USIL All-South Region and second team USILA All-American. He went 11-3 last season with a 8.34 goals against average, 127 saves and a .562 save percentage.

A sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina, Webb tallied eight points on six goals and two assists with 50 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers last season for the Crusaders. Courtney, a redshirt junior from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, was named 2021 first team All-Conference Carolinas as he called 37 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers on defense last season. Shien, a senior from British Columbia, Canada, earned USILA Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team All-Region honors last season while being named first team All-Conference Carolinas as he tallied 27 points on 21 goals and six assists with 13 ground balls.

The Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse season began on Friday, February 4. The men’s lacrosse conference championship will take place April 26, 29 and May 1.
