Conference Carolinas Qualifies Eight for 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee has announced the participants for the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships and eight Conference Carolinas student-athletes representing four institutions were selected to compete. 
 
Emmanuel had three student-athletes qualify while Lees-McRae and Mount Olive are each sending a pair while UNC Pembroke qualified one. 
 
Jharna Alston, Sulaimane Bangura and Moena Battle will represent the Lions as Alston is ranked fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.01, Bangura is ranked ninth in the 400m with a time of 47.63 and Battle is tied for 11th in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m (5-8).
 
Zai Fraser and Brian Sims will represent the Bobcats of Lees-McRae in the triple jump and 400m, respectively. Fraser is seeded seventh with a mark of 12.47m (40-10.94) while Sims is seeded 13th with a time of 47.72. 
 
Mount Olive will be represented by Mary Brigid Keck and Jon Wojcuich in the women’s and men’s weight throw, respectively. Keck is seeded 18th in the women’s event with a mark of 18.54m (60-10) while Wojcuich is seeded 17th in the men’s event with a mark of 19.49m (63-11.5).
 
Orlandus Gamble is the Braves’ representative and he is tied for 11th in the high jump with a mark of 2.10m (6-11). 
 
A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.

Heat sheets will be available at this same website by Monday, March 7.
 
The championships will be held March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Harvey Dean Track. Pittsburg State University and Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships.
 
The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com.
