Conference Carolinas Trio Named D2CCA Women’s Basketball All-Region
BANNER ELK, N.C. - Shanika Peterkin and Jami Tham of Barton along with Lauryn Taylor of Francis Marion have each been named to the 2021-22 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women’s Basketball All-Southeast Region Team.
Peterkin was a 2020-21 D2CCA Third Team All-American selection and is the second player to be selected as a three-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and the first player to ever be named a five-time Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year and the only player in league history to win both honors in the same season, which she has done the past three campaigns. The 6-foot-2 center from Virginia Beach, Virginia currently leads the league in scoring (18.0) and is second in rebounds per game (10.6). She is second in Conference Carolinas in field goal percentage (.538) and leads the league in blocked shots with 79. She was named Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship Most Outstanding Player in leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA Southeast Regional.
Tham was a 2021-22 Conference Carolinas First Team All-Conference selection and is fourth in the league in scoring at 15.9 per contest and leads the league in rebounds at 10.9 per game. The senior center from Arlington, Virginia shoots 49.9 percent from the field and is third in the league in steals with 57.
Taylor led Francis Marion to the Conference Carolinas championship game as the seven seed and was a second team all-conference selection and named to the all-tournament team. The sophomore center from Blythewood, South Carolina finished the season third in the league in scoring at 16.7 per contest and fourth in rebounds at 9.5 per game. She also shot 48 percent from the field this season.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. The process concludes with All- American selections announced later in the month.
