Conference Carolinas Unveils 2021-22 Men’s Basketball All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas released its 2021-22 men's basketball awards ahead of the start of the 2022 Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
The 2021-22 all-conference awards were chosen by the league's head coaches.
Redshirt senior Spencer Levi of UNC Pembroke was selected as the Player and Defensive Player of the Year. The St. Louis, Missouri native is the first player in league history to win both awards. The 6-foot-8 forward helped lead the Braves to the regular season crown and the top seed in the conference tournament in the school’s first season in Conference Carolinas. Levi currently leads UNC Pembroke in points (15.9) and rebounds (9.0) per game which rank eighth and second in the league, respectively. He is also second in the league in field goal percentage (.720) and blocked shots (50, 1.9 per game).
Francis Marion freshman Jonah Pierce was named Freshman of the Year in the Patriots first season in Conference Carolinas. Pierce helped lead the Patriots to the No. 9 seed in the conference tournament and a first-round upset of King. The Sanford, Florida native finished the season second on the team in points (13) and first in rebounds (8.1) per contest while shooting better than 61 percent from the field.
UNC Pembroke head coach Drew Richards was chosen as the Coach of the Year as he led the Braves to a 25-2 record overall and a 22-2 mark in conference play as well as a top-10 national ranking this season.
