Shanika Peterkin of Barton Named 2022 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches’ All-America Honorable Mention
ATLANTA, Ga. – Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Shanika Peterkin has been named to the 2022 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches’ All-America honorable mention team.
A three-time Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Women’s Basketball All-American, Peterkin was also an honorable mention selection following the 2019-20 season. Peterkin was also an honorable mention selection following the 2019-20 season.
A senior center from Virginia Beach, Va., Peterkin led the Bulldogs to the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament. She finished the season as the conference leader in scoring and second in rebounds while ranking fifth in NCAA Division II in blocks and double-doubles (18). She averaged 18 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 63.7 percent from the free-throw line. She also tallied 83 blocks and 53 steals on the season
