Emmanuel, Barton Student-Athletes to Represent Conference Carolinas at NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving National Championships get underway on Wednesday, March 8 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina and four student-athletes and three relays will represent Conference Carolinas.
Thiago Rosa, Joao Santos and Natalie Hayes along with the men’s 200 and 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams will compete for Emmanuel while Kleanza Cathers will swim for Barton.
Rosa and Santos will each compete in three individual events as Rosa is seeded ninth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.39, 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke (48.23) and 29th in the 50-yard freestyle (20.11). Santos is seeded 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.57, 23rd in the 50-yard freestyle (20.00) and 42nd in the 100-yard freestyle (44.71).
Hayes is seeded 19th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.23 and 32nd in the 100 Butterfly (55.84). Cathers is seeded 18th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.17 and 52nd in the 100-yard freestyle (51.82).
Rosa, Santos and Cathers will each compete on the first day of competition which begins at 10 a.m. on March 8. Cathers will compete in the 50 free which is the third event of the day followed by the men’s 50 free. The event finals will begin at 6 p.m. that night with the 50 free being seventh and eighth on the meet program. Emmanuel’s 200 free relay will compete in the final event of the first day.
Hayes will make her first swim in the first event on Thursday, March 10 at 10 a.m. in the 100 fly prelims. Her event finals are also first in the evening session which begins at 6 p.m. The Lions will again compete in the final event of the day, this time the 400 medley relay.
Rosa returns to the poll first on Friday, March 11 in the 100 back prelims which are fourth on the program in the 10 a.m. session. The sixth event of the day, the 100 breast prelims, will feature Santos while Hayes will compete in the seventh event, the 200 fly prelims. The event finals will begin at 6 p.m. that night following the same order.
The Championships conclude on Saturday, March 12 and it will be a busy day for Conference Carolinas as Cathers swims in the 100 free prelims to begin the day followed by Santos and Rosa in the men’s 100 free prelims. The event finals are the third and fourth events in the 6 p.m. session with the Lions’ 400 free relay closing out the championships.
