Jake Piccirilli of UNC Pembroke Selected Wrestling Freshman of the Month for February
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Jake Piccirilli of UNC Pembroke has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for wrestling for February.
A 149-pound freshman from Woodstock, Georgia, Piccirilli went 10-2 across the month of February, including a 4-1 mark in the NCAA Super Region II Tournament en route to qualifying for the NCAA National Championships. He started the month with a 13-3 major decision over Nicholas Volies of Emmanuel in a conference win for the Braves. In a one-point team loss to Belmont Abbey he won a 7-2 decision over Tyler Pepe and then had a 19-4 tech fall win over Josh Twilley of Coker in a 43-11 UNCP win. He had a 5-0 win over Hayden Waddell of Mount Olive and had an 18-3 tech fall over Hunter Jugens of Lander in Braves final home dual of the year.
He finished third in the region to qualify for nationals. This is the second freshman of the month honor for Piccirilli this season.
