Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Student-Athletes to Compete at NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. The 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships begin on Friday, March 11 at Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas and eight Conference Carolinas student-athletes from four institutions will compete across seven different events.
 
Emmanuel had three student-athletes qualify while Lees-McRae and Mount Olive are each sending a pair and UNC Pembroke qualified one. 
 
Jharna Alston, Sulaimane Bangura and Moena Battle will represent the Lions. Alston has the fourth-fastest seed time in the 200m with a time of 24.01 and will run in lane four of the first of five heats in the prelims on Friday at 6:35 p.m. The top eight fastest advance by time. Bangura is seeded eighth in the 400m with a time of 47.63 and will run in lane four of heat four-of-five with the top eight fastest advancing on time. The men’s 400m prelims will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Battle has the 11th-best seed mark in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.73m (5-8). She will compete on Friday at 4:40 p.m. in a single flight final as the fifth jumper.
 
Zai Fraser and Brian Sims will represent the Bobcats of Lees-McRae in the triple jump and 400m, respectively. Fraser will compete on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. in the second flight, eighth jumper, of the women’s triple jump finals where she has the seventh-best seed mark of 12.47m (40-10.94). Sims will join Bangura in the 400m where he is seeded 12th with a time of 47.72. He will run in the fifth heat in lane five. 
 
Mount Olive will be represented by Mary Brigid Keck and Jon Wojcuich in the women’s and men’s weight throw, respectively. Keck is seeded 18th in the women’s event with a mark of 18.54m (60-10) and will compete in the first flight of the event finals, as the sixth thrower, which begin on Friday at 5:55 p.m. Wojcuich is seeded 17th in the men’s event with a mark of 19.49m (63-11.5) and will be the first competitor in the first of two final flights which begins on Friday at 3:25 p.m.
 
Orlandus Gamble is the Braves’ representative and he enters the men’s high jump tied for the 11th best mark at 2.10m (6-11). The event, which begins at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, will be a one flight final and Gamble will be the second of 16 jumpers in the field.
