Tanner Wakefield and Austin Moore of Francis Marion Capture Conference Carolinas Baseball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Tanner Wakefield and Austin Moore of Francis Marion have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas baseball for the week ending April 10.
Wakefield was selected as the Player of the Week, while Moore earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A graduate infielder/outfielder from Gainesville, Georgia, Wakefield batted .692 (9-for-13) in four games last week which included a conference series win over Mount Olive and a win over defending national champion and second-ranked Wingate. In the 8-0 win over Wingate he went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. He then went 7-for-10 in the series win over Mount Olive with one double, five runs scored and three driven in. He is currently riding a 20-game hitting streak, the fifth longest in program history. He slugged .846 with a .688 on-base percentage on the week.
A junior right-handed pitcher from Florence, South Carolina, Moore tossed six shutout innings in his first career start to earn the win over Wingate. He allowed six hits and struck out six with zero walks before rain ended the game in the top of the seventh.
