Conference Carolinas Unveils 2021-22 Men's Golf All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas released its 2021-22 Men's Golf awards, as selected by the league’s head coaches, on Thursday, April 14.
Bryson Boyette of Barton, the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s Golf Championship individual runner-up, was named Player of the Year for the second time (2019). Boyette, who was also the 2018 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region, 13th in NCAA Division II, and has a 70.57 adjusted scoring average this season. He had two rounds under par at the championship as he finished with a two-under 214 (75-70-69). In 30 rounds this season, Boyette posted 23 rounds under par with a season-low round of 66. In his 10 events this season he won four and was inside the top-5 seven times and never finished outside the top-25.
Laurenz Meifels of Erskine, the top freshman finisher at the championship, was named the Freshman of the Year. The tournament leader in pars with 42, Meifels finished fourth overall with a 218 (73-72-73) and was the only golfer to not post a score over 73 in the three-day event. He finished the season with a 73.47 adjusted scoring average and 10 par or better rounds including three rounds in the 60s with a low round of 67. He had three top-10 finishes with his best coming at the Emerald City Invitational when he finished third in the 34-golfer field.
Second-year head coach Derek Hamm was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading the Bulldogs to a second-place finish at the championship with a 54-hole score of 890 (304-297-289). Barton is the top-ranked league program in the latest Golfstat rankings at No. 17. The Bulldogs have an average team score of 288.33 with five events at par or below with three tournament wins and nine top-10 finishes.
