Todd Mattox of Francis Marion and Reece Fields of North Greenville Capture Conference Carolinas Baseball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Todd Mattox of Francis Marion and Reece Fields of North Greenville have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas baseball for the week ending April 17.
Mattox was selected as the Player of the Week, while Fields earned Pitcher of the Week accolades for the fourth time this season.
A senior third baseman from Winnsboro, South Carolina, Mattox hit .524 in four games last week with eight runs scored, three doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs. He slugged .810 with an on-base percentage of .542. After having his streak of safely reaching base snapped at 79 games (nine shy of the NCAA Division II record) in the mid-week 8-5, 12-inning win over Lander, he went 11-for-17 in a three-game road sweep of Chowan. In the series opener he went 5-for-7 with two doubles, one home run, five RBIs and four runs scored. Then in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader he went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.
A redshirt junior right-handed pitcher from West Columbia, South Carolina, Fields had another stellar outing as he allowed two hits over six innings with five strikeouts and one walk in a 9-0 home league win for the Crusaders. He is third in the league with a 2.93 ERA and second in opposing batting average (.215).
