Barton, North Greenville Advance to Conference Carolinas Women’s Lacrosse Semifinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Third-seeded Barton and No. 4 seed North Greenville advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship with quarterfinal victories on Monday, April 25, 2022.
 
Barton (10-7) outscored Southern Wesleyan (6-12) 8-3 over the first and third quarters to pull out a 14-11 victory in Wilson, North Carolina, to survive and advance. The Bulldogs scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed. The Warriors were able to cut the deficit to one, 11-10, with 8:25 to play but Barton scored three of the final four goals in the contest for the win. Sydney Quinn tallied a team-high four points for the Bulldogs with two goals and two assists while Samantha Diaz had three goals and four other players had two goals each. Carley Patwell had a team-best five ground balls and Avery Woodcock forced two caused turnovers for Barton. Tabitha Beecher finished with a match-high seven points on four goals and three assists while Kelsey Hawkins had a match-best five goals. Jairy Sandoval led the Warriors' defense with a game-high five caused turnovers and eight ground balls to go with 13 draw controls.
 
In Tigerville, South Carolina, North Greenville (9-9) used a 6-3 fourth quarter to pull away from Emmanuel (9-7) in a 16-13 win. The Lions scored the first two goals of the game and led 10-8 with 8:59 left in the third quarter, but the Crusaders scored six straight to take a 14-10 lead with 6:35 left in the game. Emmanuel added three more goals, but NGU tallied a pair, including the final goal with 30 seconds left to seal the win. Emmanuel outshot North Greenville 33-32 in the contest and 25-24 in shots on goal but McKenna Kees made 12 saves for the Crusaders in net. Emma Mayew paced the Crusaders' offense with seven points on five goals and two assists while Kaitlin O'Brien added four goals and an assist. Kylie Keen collected five draw controls and Danielle LaPlume added four for the home team. Bailie Garland led Emmanuel with four goals and three caused turnovers to go with five draw controls while Anna Gill had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists. Justine Dorelas added three goals and a game-high nine draw controls for the Lions. 
 
North Greenville will move on to face top-seed Mount Olive in the semifinals on Thursday, April 28 at 12 p.m. at Pepsi Stadium on the campus of North Greenville. Barton will also travel to North Greenville to face second-seed Belmont Abbey in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. The championship final will be held in Tigerville on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m.
