Barton, North Greenville Advance to Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Semifinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Third-seeded North Greenville and No. 4 seed Barton advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Championship with quarterfinal victories on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
 
Barton (9-6) outscored Chowan (6-8) by eight, 12-4, in the second half to take a 21-12 victory at Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina. The Hawks, looking for an upset, scored the first two goals and trailed by one, 5-4, after the second quarter. The game remained a one goal game, 9-8, at the half, but the Bulldogs scored the first three goals and 7-of-9 goals to open the second half to push the lead to six, 16-10. A 5-1 fourth quarter gave the home team the final nine goal margin. Mark Crawford paced the Barton attack with nine points on five goals and four assists with six ground balls while Mason Chaney added four goals and an assist and Matt Calleri had three goals and an assist. The Bulldogs won 24-of-36 faceoffs in the contest led by Pat Farist who was 15-for-22 with four ground balls while Cole McCarthy went 9-for-12 in the faceoff circle. Eric George paced the Hawks with five points on four goals and an assist while Jaxon Martin added four goals and Hassan Davis was 12-for-34 in faceoffs with five ground balls. In goal, Alec Rodopoulos made 17 saves for Chowan while Giuseppe Brown collected four saves in the first half and Nathan Metcalf made eight saves in the final 30 minutes.
 
In Tigerville, South Carolina, North Greenville (9-8) used a 7-1 second quarter to defeat Lees-McRae (3-12) 26-9 in the second semifinal. The Bobcats kept things close for much of the first quarter, trailing 5-4 with 2:31 left in the opening stanza before the home team scored six straight to take an 11-4 lead at the 11:13 mark of the second quarter. Four more goals followed a Lees-McRae goal to make it 15-5 at the break and NGU limited LMC to four goals the rest of the way. Kyle Bollman led all scorers with seven points on five goals and two assists while Devin Napoli added five goals and an assist. Thomas Cecere and Nathan Bucey each added three goals while three others tallied two and four more had one goal each. Brady Hope (8-for-14) and Seth Broseman (10-for-18) combined to lead the Crusaders to a 20-18 edge in faceoff wins. J.P. Galloway led the Bobcats with five points on four goals and an assist while Ryan Bird added three goals and an assist in the loss. 
 
Barton will move on to face top-seed Belmont Abbey in the semifinals on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina. North Greenville will face second-seed Mount Olive in the second semifinal in Wilson at 7 p.m. The championship final will be held at Barton on Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m.
