Conference Carolinas Unveils 2022 Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas officially unveiled the 2022 women’s lacrosse all-conference honors on Wednesday, April 27.
The all-conference awards were chosen by the league’s head coaches.
For the second straight season, Belmont Abbey claimed Offensive Player of the Year honors as Riley D’Andrea took home the honors. The 5-foot-9 junior attack from Farmingdale, New York, finished the regular season fourth in goals (3.71) and points (4.65) per game, fifth in shots per game (6.94) and ninth in assists per contest (.94). She led the Crusaders with 79 points on 63 goals and 16 assists while also collecting 16 ground balls and forcing six caused turnovers. Of her 63 goals, an impressive 21 came in woman-down situations.
Mount Olive captured Defensive Player of the Year honors for the fifth straight season as Chaija Olsson took home 2022 honors. A 5-foot-8 redshirt senior defender from Snoqualmie, Washington, Olsson led the Trojans with 59 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers to go with 28 ground balls and three points on one goal and two assists. She averaged 3.69 draw controls and 1.63 caused turnovers per game this season and helped the Trojans to allow just 39 goals in league play en route to a 9-0 record and the regular season championship.
Olivia Carlino of Belmont Abbey was named Freshman of the Year, the third player in program history to receive the honor and first since Mackenzie Miller in 2013. A 5-foot-7 freshman attack from Campbell, California, Carlino tallied 60 points on the season with 45 goals and 15 assists to go with 13 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and 12 draw controls. She ranks seventh in goals per game (3.30), 10th in assists per game (1.10) and ninth in points per game (4.40).
The Coach of the Year was Heather Coppola of Mount Olive for the second straight season. The second-year head coach has yet to lose a conference game for the Trojans as she led them to a second straight unbeaten record in 2022 and the regular season title. Mount Olive outscored conference foes 170-39 for a 16.4 goal per game margin with 90 caused turnovers and 144 draw controls.
