Top Two Seeds, Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey, Advance to Conference Carolinas Women’s Lacrosse Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The top two seeds, No. 1 Mount Olive and No. 2 Belmont Abbey, advanced to the final of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women’s Lacrosse Championship with semifinal victories on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
It will be a battle of familiar foes in the title game when the Crusaders and Trojans meet at Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville, South Carolina on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. The two teams have met in the past four conference tournaments, including the 2021 championship. Mount Olive is 3-1 in those meetings with a 23-16 victory last season.
In the first semifinal, Mount Olive (13-5) used a 10-1 run from the 10:27 mark in the second quarter to the 11:47 mark in the third to turn a two goal, 5-3, margin into a 15-4 lead en route to a convincing 20-9 victory. The Trojans outshot the host Crusaders 34-19 with 30 on goal to North Greenville’s (9-10) 14. Bria Hamilton and Meagan Maxwell each finished with six points for Mount Olive with Hamilton scoring four times with two assists while Maxwell scored three times and had three assists. Ali Davis added three goals and an assist while four other Trojans had two goals. Zoe Dougherty led in the circle with eight draw controls to go with four points (two goals, two assists). Emma Mayew was the top scorer for the Crusaders with four goals to go with three draw controls while Dani O’Meara added three goals and three draw controls. Danielle LaPlume led NGU with four draw controls in the loss.
In the second semifinal, Barton (10-8) scored two of the first three goals for an early lead and trailed 3-2 after the opening stanza, but a 9-0 second quarter by Belmont Abbey (11-7) allowed the Crusaders to cruise to a 17-5 victory. The Crusaders outshot the Bulldogs 31-24 with 22 shots on goal to 17 for Barton. Michelle Guppy led the Belmont Abbey defense as she allowed just two goals in the first half and made seven saves to earn the win. Mackenzie Kaderabek led the offense with six points on four goals and two assists while Emma Pherson added four goals and five draw controls. 2022 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Riley D’Andrea finished with five points (three goals, two assists) and Freshman of the Year Olivia Carlino added three goals in the win. Kate Matuza led the Barton offense with three goals while Avery Woodcock added a goal and four draw controls and Sydney Quinn scored and had three draw controls.
