Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive Survive and Advance to Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The top two seeds, No. 1 Belmont Abbey and No. 2 Mount Olive, advanced to the final of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Championship with semifinal victories on Friday, April 29, 2022.
 
The Trojans and Crusaders have combined for 11 Conference Carolinas Championship game appearances with Belmont Abbey appearing in the last five. The two teams will meet for the second straight season with the trophy on the line when they take the field at Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium on Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m.
 
The first semifinal was a tale of two halves as Belmont Abbey (9-5) took a 5-0 lead into the half and led 7-1 halfway through the third quarter. Tournament host Barton (9-7) scored six straight goals from 5:52 in the third to 10:34 in the fourth to tie the game at seven. With six minutes to play, Bailey Williams netted the game-winner for the 8-7 victory. Williams finished with three points on two goals and an assist, Erik Sahlgren matched him and Noah Haas added two goals for Belmont Abbey while Thomas Sullivan was outstanding in net with 16 saves. Seth Mandryk paced the Bulldogs with three goals while J.J. Mitchell added a pair and goalie Giuseppe Brown made 10 saves in the loss. 
   
Not to be outdone, the second semifinal came down to the final minutes as Mount Olive (10-5) outlasted North Greenville (6-8), 12-9. It was all Trojans in the first half as Mount Olive led 7-1 at the break. But the Crusaders fought back with a 7-1 run from the 3:54 mark in the third to the 6:32 mark in the fourth to tie the game at nine. Just over a minute later, Chance Urban found Aidan Lalonde on the near post for the game-winning goal for the Trojans. Lucas Shein led all scorers with five goals while Lalonde finished with three and Blake Tallon added a pair of the Trojans. Andrew Avarello was solid in net for the Trojans with 14 saves. Thomas Cecere paced the Crusaders with four points on two goals and two assists while Kyle Bollman added a pair of goals and an assist and five others tallied goals for North Greenville.
