Five Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet Records Fall on First Day of Competition

RESULTS | MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – It was a record-setting first day at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, North Carolina on the campus of Mount Olive for the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships as five meet records fell.
 
Three records fell in the women’s field events as Candise Lockett of Mount Olive broke her own meet record of 54.60m set last season in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.38m. In the long jump, Mycherie Onwuzurukie of Southern Wesleyan broke the championship meet record of 5.88m set in 2014 by Tuisia Prince (Mount Olive) with a jump of 5.96m. Moena Battle of Emmanuel broke the 2012 record in the high jump set by Stephanie Burchfield of King (1.68m) with a championship jump of 1.70m.
 
A pair of records fell in the men’s field events as Jon Wojcuich of Mount Olive set a championship record with a mark of 60.82m in the hammer throw, besting the previous mark set by Micah Clemons of Barton in 2018 (57.64m). In the long jump, Noah Meadows of Southern Wesleyan also set a Conference Carolinas championship meet record with a mark of 7.28m which bests Lawrence Russel, Jr. of Barton who record a jump of 7.56m in 2017. 
 
Mount Olive leads the men’s team standings after five events with 59 points followed by UNC Pembroke (38) and Southern Wesleyan (30). In the women’s standings, the Trojans have collected 52 points followed by Converse (28) and UNC Pembroke (25). 
 
The final day of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships gets underway on Saturday, April 30 at 11 a.m. with men’s discus, pole vault and triple jump as well as the women’s triple jump. The track events begin at 1 p.m. with the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
