Mount Olive Sweeps Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships for Eighth Straight Season

RESULTS | MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Mount Olive men’s and women’s track and field programs each captured their eighth consecutive Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship and 10th in 11 seasons as the 2022 Championships concluded on Saturday afternoon at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, North Carolina on the campus of Mount Olive.
 
The Trojan men were led by Track Athlete of the Year Justin Burnette and Field Athlete of the Year Josh Faison. Burnette captured individual titles in the 100m (10.59) and 200m (21.09) while also helping the 4x100m relay team to a second-place finish (41.46). Not to be outdone, Faison won the shot put (15.94m) and discus (51.72m) and was 10th in the hammer (41.40m). This is the second straight season Mount Olive swept the Track and Field Athlete of the Year honors.
 
The men’s Freshman of the Year was Gavin McFadden of Converse who finished second in the 100m (10.77) and third in the 200m (21.53). He also ran on the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay teams. 
 
On the women’s side, Jharna Alston of Emmanuel, who also captured the same honor at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships, was named Track Athlete of the Year. Alston captures titles in the 100m (11.79) and 200m (23.99) while also competing in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. 
 
In the field, Mary Brigid Keck of Mount Olive was selected as the Field Athlete of the Year. Keck won the discus with a mark of 41.30m, placed second in the hammer with a toss of 52.67m and was fifth in the shot put (12.45m). 
 
Ashley Doyle of King was named Freshman of the Year after capturing the same honor at the indoor championships. Doyle won the 10000m with a time of 37:59.04 and placed second in the 5000m with a time of 18:43.52.
 
Earl Graves, head coach at Mount Olive, was named men’s and women’s Coach of the Year, the second straight season he’s earned the award for the men’s team.
