Belmont Abbey Claims First-Ever Conference Carolinas Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship

SUMTER, S.C. - Top seed Belmont Abbey defeated No. 3 Mount Olive in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s Tennis Championship Final on Sunday, May 1 at the Palmetto Tennis Center to claim the program's first-ever tournament trophy. 
 
The Crusaders had been runner-up at the championship three times since 2017 and were 2-13 all-time against the Trojans, but won both meetings in 2022. 
 
In doubles, Mount Olive won at No. 1 and Belmont Abbey won at No. 3 before the Crusaders took No. 2 doubles, 6-4. 
   
Mount Olive won No. 1 and No. 4 singles to put pressure on the Crusaders who earned points at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to take a 3-2 lead. With No. 5 and No. 6 singles in the third set, it was Andres Golindano of Belmont Abbey, who was named 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Player, that sealed the victory at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. 
   
Belmont Abbey will make its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2001 as they earned the automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Tennis Regional. The complete championship field will be announced on Tuesday, May 4 at 8 p.m. at NCAA.com.
