North Greenville Sweeps Princeton to Collect First-Ever Conference Carolinas NCAA Tournament Win in Men’s Volleyball

LOS ANGELES – North Greenville made history by sweeping Princeton to become the first-ever Conference Carolinas men’s volleyball team to claim an NCAA Tournament victory.
North Greenville (21-5) started its victory over 14
th-ranked Princeton in the NCAA Tournament opening round by collecting a 25-21 win in the first set. The Crusaders would then pick up a dominating 25-18 win in the second set.
The dynamic of the match changed in the third set with Princeton looking as if they would take the third set as they were ahead, 18-11, at one point. The Crusaders had other ideas though with North Greenville very shortly thereafter tying things up at 19-all.
North Greenville had match point at 24-23, but Princeton pushed the third set to extra points with the two teams going back and forth for many points. The third set would still be tied at 38-38, but a Princeton service error was followed by an attacking error to give the Crusaders the thrilling set win at 40-38.
The Crusaders hit an impressive .333 in its win while also limiting Princeton to just a .175 hitting percentage. Gregory Torres led North Greenville with 19 kills. The North Greenville block party was led by Emanuel Adames’ six blocks. Sergio Carrillo paced the North Greenville attack with 37 assists. Carrillo also had four blocks and three aces.
James Hartley just missed on a double-double in the match for Princeton with 19 kills and nine digs.
North Greenville moves on to face defending national champion Hawaii (24-5) at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 3 at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA. The winner of the matchup will advance to face Ball State (23-3).
