Conference Carolinas Places Eight on USA Lacrosse Magazine Men’s Lacrosse All-American Teams
SPARKS, Md. - USA Lacrosse Magazine named its Division II Men’s Lacrosse All-Americans and eight Conference Carolinas student-athletes were recognized from four different institutions.
Belmont Abbey, the 2022 Confernece Carolinas regular season and tournament champions, led the way with four selections while Chowan had two honorees and North Greenville and Mount Olive each had one.
Neil Lingerman, a senior defender from Goshen, New York, earned second team honors for the Crusaders. He led the Crusaders with 20 caused turnovers on the season and had 35 groundballs to go with two points on one goal and an assist. He led a defense that permitted just 38 goals in an undfeated league season. Lingerman was named to the All-Confernece Carolinas first team in 2022.
Lingerman’s teammate Noah Haas was named to the USA Lacrosse Magazine third team at the midfield position. A junior from Gulf Breeze, Florida, Haas finished the season second on the team with 45 points on 36 goals and nine assists. He put 64 percent of his shots on goal this season and earned first team all-league honors.
Austin Hasen, the 2022 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year, and Thomas Sullivan, the 2022 Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year, were each honorable mention All-Americans. Hasen, a junior attack from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, led the Crusaders with 58 points on 41 goals and 17 assists with 81.5 percent of his shots on goal. He also had seven caused turnovers and 14 groundballs. Sullivan led Conference Carolinas with a 9.58 goals against average and 14.07 saves per game. The sophomore goalie from North Babylon, New York also had a league-best .613 save percentage.
Second team All-Conference Carolinas selection at attack, Jaxon Martin, and first team all-conference midfielder Jackson Downs represented Chowan. Martin, a senior from Jarvis, Ontario, Canada, finished the season as the league leader in goals (59) and points (79) while Downs, a redshirt senior from Olney, Maryland, was third in points per game (4.36) with 61 points on 36 goals and 25 assists. The duo helped lead the Hawks to one of the best seasons in program history. The pair were named honorable mention All-Americans.
Another 2022 Conference Carolinas first team All-Conference attack Thomas Cecere represented North Greenville as an honorable mention selection. A redshirt junior from Grand Island, New York, Cecere finished the season third in the conference in goals with 51 and fourth in points per game (4.06) with 69 points. He also led the league in shots per game at 10.41 per contest.
Mount Olive short stick defensive midfielder Jake Mackenzie also earned honorable mention accolades. A senior from Mount Airy, Maryland, Mackenzie was a 2022 Confernece Carolinas first team all-confernece selection as he led the league with 6.06 groundballs per game with 97 on the season. He caused 12 turnovers on the year and had nine points on six goals and three assists.
