Samuel Trueba of King Claims Third-Place Finish at NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship

DEARBORN, Mich. - Samuel Trueba of King claimed a top-5 finish after the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship at the par 72, 7,056-yard layout at TPC of Michigan.
 
Trueba’s third-place finish was the first top-5 individual finish in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship for Conference Carolinas since 2016 when Griffin Brown of Limestone finished third. It’s the second straight national championship in which a Conference Carolinas men’s golfer has finished in the top-25 individually. Alberto Dominguez of Erskine finished 22nd in 2021.
 
Playing as an individual, Trueba carded four birdies in round three to post a final round score of 1-under 71. Trueba closed out his three rounds with a total of 1-under 215 (73-71-71). The score tied him for third with Nick Westrich of Central Missouri.
 
A junior from Pedrena, Spain, Trueba finished stroke play leading all golfers in the field with a 4.33 scoring average in par five scoring. His 13 birdies in the three rounds were tied for second-best.
 
The top eight teams after stroke play advanced to match play with Central Missouri grabbing the No. 1 seed. Joel Sylven of Missouri-St. Louis was the individual national champion after stroke play.
