Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes to Compete at NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin on Thursday, May 26 at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan and 12 Conference Carolinas student-athletes from five institutions will compete across nine different events.
 
Mount Olive had a league-best four student-athletes qualify followed by three from Lees-McRae, two each from Emmanuel and UNC Pembroke and one from Southern Wesleyan.
 
The Trojans are represented by Justen Burnette in the 200m and Jon Wojcuich, Mary Brigid Keck and Candy Lockett in the Hammer Throw. Wojcuich will be the first to compete as the men’s Hammer Throw begins at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 with the women’s event to follow at 3:30 p.m. Wojcuich qualified with the seventh-best mark at 63.37m and will compete in flight two as the fourth thrower. Keck and Lockett will each compete in the first flight in the women’s event with Keck the fifth thrower and Locket the eighth to compete. The prelims of the men’s 200m is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27 and Burnette, who qualified with the fifth-fastest time this season, will run in lane eight in the third flight with the top two fastest from each heat and the next three best times advancing to the event finals on Saturday, May 28 at 4:40 p.m.
 
The Bobcats will send Britney Augustin (400m Hurdles), Zai Fraser (Triple Jump) and Brian Sims Jr. (400m) to the championships. Sims will get things started for LMC in the men’s 400m prelims on May 26 at 5:40 p.m. where he will run in heat three, lane seven. The top nine advance to the event finals on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. with the two fastest in each heat and the next three best times. Augustin will also compete on Thursday in the women’s 400m Hurdles prelims at 7:55 p.m. She will run in heat one, lane seven with the top two fastest in each heat and the next three best times advancing to the even finals on Saturday at 4:20 p.m. Fraser will compete on Friday at 4:45 p.m. in the women’s triple jump as she is the first jumper in flight two. Her seed mark of 12.81m is the fifth-best in the field. 
 
Quanterra Harrsion of UNC Pembroke will join Augustin in the 400m hurdles as she is in heat one, lane four. Joshua Chepkesir will also compete for the Braves in the men’s 10,000m which is schedule for 8:10 p.m. on Thursday. Chepkesir will compete with 23 other student-athletes in the event final. 
 
Sulaimane Bangura will represent Emmanuel in the men’s 400m where he will join Sims Jr. competing in heat one, lane five. Jharna Alston will also run for the Lions in the women’s 200m prelims on Friday, May 27 at 5:45 p.m. She will run in the third heat, lane nine, as the third-fastest seed time in her heat. 
 
Mycherie Onwuzuruike will represent the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan in the women’s long jump on Thursday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m. She will compete in the first flight as the fourth jumper.
