Conference Carolinas Releases 2022 Baseball All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas released its 2022 baseball all-conference honors on Tuesday, May 3 ahead of the conference championship which begins on Wednesday, May 4 at Historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina.
The all-conference awards were chosen by the league’s head coaches.
Marek Chlup and Reece Fields of North Greenville won Player and Pitcher of the year honors while Ethan Ott of UNC Pembroke was named Freshman of the Year and Landon Powell of North Greenville was awarded Coach of the Year.
Chlup, a 6-foot-3 redshirt junior outfielder from Cesky Dub, Czech Republic, joins Utah Jones (2019) and John Michael Faile (2021) as Crusaders to earn Player of the Year honors the past three seasons. Chlup finished the regular season leading Conference Carolinas in hitting with a .429 average and .738 slugging percentage. He scored 52 runs and drove in 62 with 15 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. He is 24-for-25 on the bases this season and drew 34 walks.
Fields joins former Crusader Tucker Burgess (2018, 19) as Pitcher of the Year winners from North Greenville. The 6-foot-2 redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher from West Columbia, South Carolina, finished the regular season 9-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 14 starts with two complete games. He has struck out 76 batters in 69 innings with just 19 walks and a .237 batting average against. His nine wins topped the conference in 2022.
A 6-foot-2 freshman designated hitter from Chesapeake, Virginia, Ott is the first Brave to win a major award in Conference Carolinas. Ott finished the regular season second on the team with a .355 average and was one of two Braves to play in all 49 games this season. He scored 50 runs with 48 RBIs with seven doubles and 10 home runs while going 7-for-12 on the bases.
Powell, in his eighth-year as head coach at North Greenville, earned his second Coach of the Year honor (2018) after leading the Crusaders to a 25-5 league record and a 41-8 mark overall. The team is second in the league in hitting (.343) and leads the conference in pitching ERA (3.67) and batting average against (.218).
