Belmont Abbey Concludes Historic 2021-22 Campaign With NCAA Tournament Loss to Columbus State

RESULTS | COLUMBUS, Ga. – Nationally 24th-ranked and regionally eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey closed out its historic 2021-22 season with a 4-0 loss to nationally top-ranked and regionally top-seeded Columbus State.
 
The match opened with Columbus State collecting the doubles point with the Cougars earning the victory at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the point. No. 3 doubles was left unfinished.
 
In singles, Zachary Blythe was up 6-2, 3-2 over nationally 41st-ranked Javier Cueto Ramos of Columbus State at No. 2 singles, but the Cougars won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to close out the match. All of the other singles matches were left unfinished. 
 
Belmont Abbey concludes its historic season with the loss to Columbus State. The Crusaders finished the regular season undefeated in league play and went on to pick up their first-ever Conference Carolinas Tournament title.
 
Columbus State will next take on the winner of the No. 4 Lander/No. 5 Queens matchup. The Southeast Region #1 final will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.
