Conference Carolinas Places 17 on ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2022 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region Teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions and Conference Carolinas had 17 student-athletes earn Southeast Region recognition. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.

Francis Marion and North Greenville tied with Columbus State for the most all-region honorees with four each while Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey tied with Lenoir-Rhyne for the second-most selections with three apiece. Barton and King also had one selection each.

Conference Carolinas had seven of 17 first-team selections led by 2022 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Marek Chlup who was named first-team outfielder along with Bobby Dixon of UNC Pembroke. Chlup’s teammate and 2022 Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year, Reece Fields, was also named to the first team. Darius Nobles and Todd Mattox of Francis Marion were named first-team first base and third base, respectively, while Jack Casbarro of Mount Olive was the first-team second baseman. Ben Ferguson of Belmont Abbey rounded out the first-team honors at the utility position.

Ten other student-athletes earned second-team recognition in John Michael Faile of North Greenville (catcher), Tanner Wakefield of Francis Marion (second base), Alden Cottle of Mount Olive (third base), Ben Gobbel of Belmont Abbey (shortstop), outfielders Will Hardee (Francis Marion), Sean Johnson (Belmont Abbey) and Robbie Scott (King), designated hitter Vito Patierno (Mount Olive), utility player Pat Monteith (North Greenville) and starting pitcher Alex Hart of Barton.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First-Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Americans will be announced on Friday, June 3. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 22.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and High School. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
