GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ashtyn Patterson of Francis Marion has been selected to the 2021-22 Academic All-America® Softball Team announced by CoSIDA on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
A senior Art Education and Pshychology double major, Patterson has a perfect 4.0 GPA. She is one of seven student-athletes across the three teams to hold a perfect undergradute mark.

On the diamond, Patterson led Francis Marion in batting (.372 average), runs scored (57), stolen bases (8-of-10) and on-base percentage (.488). Her runs and on-base percentage were the second- and fifth-highest single-season marks respectively in program history. The Andersonville, Tennessee native also registered 13 doubles, four home runs, and 33 runs batted in. She safely reached base in 51 of the team's 55 contests, including the first 36 games of the season.

A First-Team All-Conference Carolinas and All-Defensive Team selection, Patterson helped lead FMU to a 33-22 record, an appearance in the Conference Carolinas Tournament title game, and the program's third-ever NCAA Division II National Tournament bid.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
