Five Conference Carolinas Student-Athletes Named to CPL All-Star Team
HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced the rosters for the 2022 All-Star Game to be held in Holly Springs, North Carolina at Dick Sears Field at Ting Stadium on Sunday, July 10 at 5:40 p.m. and five Conference Carolinas student-athletes from four different institutions received the honor.
Armando Becerra of Erskine will represent the Savannah Bananas on the West team while Sean Johnson (Belmont Abbey), Ethan Ott (UNC Pembroke), Will Hardee (Francis Marion) and Trent Harris (UNC Pembroke) will all represent the East team. Becerra, Johnson and Ott were each chosen as starters for the game.
Becerra is currently fifth in the league in hitting at .340 with an .837 OPS. He has four doubles, two triples, 12 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has helped the Bananas to a division-best 22-9 record this season.
Hardee is leading the Florence Flamingos with a .328 average in 19 games this season with three doubles, one triple and a pair of home runs. He has driven in 13 and scored 17 with a .963 OPS.
Johnson has impressed with the Morehead City Marlins who currently lead the league with a 23-7 record. In 30 games he has hit .325 with eight doubles, one triple and one home run. He has scored 28 times and driven in 19 with an .846 OPS.
The Wilson Tobs are second in the East with a 19-9 record led by Ott and Harris. Ott is second on the team with a .316 average in 23 games with eight doubles and two home runs. He has scored 22 runs and has 16 RBIs to go with an .896 OPS. Harris has excelled on the mound as he is 3-1 in five starts with a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings. He is third in the league in ERA and has allowed seven runs, six earned, on 25 hits with 27 strikeouts to six walks.
The players were voted upon within their division by CPL head coaches, broadcasters and local media representatives from each market. Since the game is being played in the Holly Springs Salamanders’ home ballpark, the East CPL All-Stars will be the home team while the West CPL All-Stars will serve as the visitors.
