Defending Tournament Champion UNC Pembroke Tops Conference Carolinas Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Defending tournament champion UNC Pembroke has been picked to claim its first regular season title in the 2022 Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The conference office officially unveiled the preseason poll on Aug. 17, 2022. The preseason poll was voted on by the league’s head coaches.
UNC Pembroke, who rejoined Conference Carolinas in August of 2021, finished the season 15-5 overall and 11-1 in league play and was the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Southeast Region. The Braves collected 143 points and 11-of-13 first-place votes in the poll. North Greenville was ranked second with 128 points and one first-place nod while 2021 tournament runner-up and No. 1 seed in the league tournament, Mount Olive, was picked third with 125 points and the remaining first-place vote.
Lees-McRae was slotted fourth with 105 points followed by Belmont Abbey (102), Barton (89), Chowan (79), Emmanuel (60), King (51), Francis Marion (46), Southern Wesleyan (35), Converse (33) and Erskine (18).
The 2022 season gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 25 with conference play beginning on Sept. 7. The first two rounds of the conference tournament will take place on campus sites at the higher seeds on Oct. 26 and 29. The semifinals and championship, Nov. 4 and 6, will be played at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
