Taylor Barrineau of Lees-McRae and Chiara Coppin of UNC Pembroke Named Women’s Soccer Players of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Taylor Barrineau of Lees-McRae and Chiara Coppin of UNC Pembroke have earned the first weekly honors in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer for the 2022 season.
Barrineau earned Offensive Player of the Week honors while Coppin took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A junior forward, Barrineau led Lees-McRae women's soccer to a 0-1-1 record on the week with a 2-2 draw against No.4 in the nation, Lenoir-Rhyne, on Saturday night. The Iron Station, North Carolina native scored both goals in the tie against the Bears with all three of her shots on frame. In the match against Mars Hill, Barrineau tallied one shot on goal in 66 minutes of action. Her two goals currently leads Conference Carolinas.
A native of Monroe, North Carolina, Coppin played all 90 minutes in goal against North Georgia and notched her 14th career clean sheet in the Braves’ season opener. The sophomore goalkeeper faced 14 shots and matched a career high with seven saves. It’s the first win for UNCP in Dahlonega since 2009.
