Austin Hasen of Belmont Abbey Selected in First Round of the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft
TORONTO - On Saturday, Austin Hasen of Belmont Abbey was selected No. 18 overall in the 2022 National Lacrosse League draft by the Rochester Knighthawks.
Hasen, the 2022 Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, will play for his father Mike Hasen in Rochester. In 51 career games at Belmont Abbey, Hasen registered 154 career points on 113 goals and 41 assists. During his senior season in 2022, the forward tallied a career-high 41 goals on 81 shots and dished out 17 assists for 58 points.
Hasen added 14 ground balls and caused seven turnovers as he earned a spot in the 2022 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Senior All-Star Game. He is currently playing for his father in the Major Series Lacrosse league for the Peterborough Lakers where he has 11 goals and 12 assists in 12 games. In 2019, Hasen won a gold medal while representing Team Canada internationally at the World Junior Lacrosse Championship.
The National Lacrosse League was founded in 1986 and ranked third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide behind only the NHL and NBA. The League has 15 lacrosse franchises across the United States and Canada. The NLL is a box lacrosse league which is played inside the confines of an ice hockey rink, with glass and rink boards intact. The playing surface consists of a green dieter turf carpet that is laid down over the hockey ice.
