Marcus Boykin of Barton and Alex Cox of Francis Marion Pick Up Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Marcus Boykin of Barton and Alex Cox of Francis Marion have collected the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas men’s basketball for the week ending Jan. 8, 2023.
Boykin was chosen as the Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Cox was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. He was also named the Player of the Week on Dec. 4.
A 6-foot-1 sophomore guard from Clinton, North Carolina, Boykin averaged 31.5 points, five rebounds and four assists per game in Barton’s league wins over Emmanuel and North Greenville. Boykin scored a career-best 42 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and one steal in Barton’s 89-71 road conference victory over Emmanuel on Jan. 4. He followed that up with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in Barton’s league home win over North Greenville on Saturday, Jan. 7. Boykin is averaging a league third-best 24.0 points per conference outing.
A fifth-year student-athlete from Concord, North Carolina, Cox had six steals and two blocks in two Francis Marion conference wins this past week. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 26.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.5 assists and one block per game in the two league wins. Cox concluded Francis Marion’s thrilling conference road win over Lees-McRae on Jan. 4 with 25 points, four steals, three assists and one block. He closed out his week with 28 points, five rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block in another thrilling conference win over King on Jan. 7.
