Conference Carolinas Wednesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Susana Ungo, Emmanuel

    A senior from Madrid, Spain, Susana Ungo of Emmanuel registered three first-place finishes in helping the Lions to defeat Mars Hill, Brenau and Point on Saturday, Oct. 7. 

    In the 200 individual medley, Ungo recorded a time of 2:09.82 to post the seventh-best time so far in the event in NCAA Division II. Her time of 57.84 in the 100 butterfly is currently 11th best in the country, while her time of 4:03.22 in the 400 medley relay is also presently ranked 11th in the nation.

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Anton Akopian, Emmanuel

    A senior from West Drayton in the United Kingdom, Anton Akopian of Emmanuel picked up three first-place finishes in the Emmanuel Fall Invite. 

    In securing a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle, Akopian collected a time of 21.14 to sit 13th in the nation in the event. His time of 46.62 in the 100 freestyle is currently 13th-best in NCAA Division II. He helped Emmanuel to the seventh-best time in the nation so far in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:29.58. Akopian posted a time of 46.55 in the 100 freestyle anchor split.

  • Men’s Golfer of the Week
    Will Ranieri, Young Harris

    A junior from Snellville, Georgia, Will Ranieri of Young Harris was named the Golfer of the Week after capturing individual medalist honors at the Limestone Fall Invitational at the par-72, 7001-yard Cherokee National Golf Club. 

    Ranieri collected individual medalist honors by notching a birdie on the second playoff hole to best Limestone’s Kristoffer Larsson. Ranieri and Larsson both finished the three rounds of stroke play with a total score of 220. 

    Ranieri battled back from an opening round 78 by posting back-to-back 71s to force the playoff and eventually claim individual medalist accolades. Young Harris finished fourth as a team at the event.
