Conference Carolinas Wednesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Britta Schwengle, UNC Pembroke

    A sophomore from Savaneta, Aruba, Britta Schwengle of UNC Pembroke placed first in all three of her individual events in a tri-meet with Wingate and Chowan.

    Schwengle recorded one of the top-20 times in NCAA Division II this season with a time of 10:31.06 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 500-yard freestyle, Schwengle’s winning time of 5:08.10 is also one of the top-20 in the country so far this season. Schwengle’s time of 5:03.07 in the 500-yard freestyle earlier this season at the King Invite is an NCAA Division II “B” cut and currently has her sixth in the country. Schwengle also claimed top honors in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.12.

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Arda Hulagu, Emmanuel

    A freshman from Antalya, Turkey, Arda Hulagu of Emmanuel picked up two individual wins in a tri-meet with Berry and Montevallo. 

    Hulagu secured the 11th-best time in the country in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:34.60. The time was also a new Berry pool record. He also picked up a Berry pool record and a top-25 in NCAA Division II in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:39.78.

  • Player of the Week
    Alejandra Guerrero, Emmanuel

    A senior from Cartagena, Colombia, Alejandra Guerrero of Emmanuel posted an impressive 2-0 record at No. 1 singles last week. 

    Guerrero first secured a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win over Limestone’s No. 1 Anastasiia Khriapko last Wednesday before collecting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Shorter’s No. 1 Sydney Wright last Friday. She also teamed with Zyanya Rogel to pick up a 6-4 win over the Shorter duo of Sharick Guiza Hernandez and Laura Martin at No. 2 doubles.

  • Player of the Week
    James Girdler, Emmanuel

    A junior from Australia, James Girdler of Emmanuel earned wins at No. 1 singles and doubles against Shorter last week. 

    Girdler picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over David Arrieta Gomez at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Georg Stettler to best Arrieta Gomez and Augustin Yap 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1 doubles.

  • Men’s Golfer of the Week
    Ryan Jahr, Barton

    A sophomore from Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, Ryan Jahr of Barton finished sixth overall at the McCoy-Wright Currahee Invite at the par-72, 7,513-yard Currahee Golf Course in Toccoa, Georgia. 

    Jahr concluded his efforts at the three-round event with a 2-under 214. He opened the event with back-to-back 72s before closing with a 70 in the third and final round. Barton finished in third place as a team at the event.

  • Bowler of the Week
    Connor Breaman, Belmont Abbey

    A sophomore from Greer, South Carolina, Connor Breaman of Belmont Abbey garnered Bowler of the Week honors for the second straight week after securing All-Tournament honors at the UPike Black Tournament. 

    Breaman finished fourth in the individual standings with a 215.2 averaged. He bowled a high game of 247.
