UNC Pembroke Falls to Catawba in NCAA Southeast Regional
BOX SCORE | SALISBURY N.C.– The 2023 Conference Carolinas women’s soccer champions, UNC Pembroke, fell in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship on Thursday night in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Braves, who were the seventh seed in the Southeast region, fell 3-0 to second-seed and ninth-ranked Catawba. The Indians (18-2-1) scored first in the 30th minute and added another tally 34 seconds before the halftime break. The final score came in the 50th minute for the final margin.
The Braves (12-4-3) were outshot 18-14 and 6-5 in shots on frame. UNC Pembroke had more corner kicks, 8-5. Anna Grossheim led the UNCP offense with four shots, one on goal, while Maria Cancio had a team-best two shots on goal with three shots. Three different players scored for the Indians.
The loss ends the season for UNC Pembroke while Catawba advances to face Wingate in the second round.
