Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Susana Ungo, Emmanuel

    A senior from Madrid, Spain, Susana Ungo of Emmanuel was part of a record-setting weekend at the annual Fall Frenzy Invite in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the 200 butterfly, Ungo collected one of the top-five times in NCAA Division II this season and an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 2:01.72. In the 200 individual medley, Ungo set the school record and captured an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 2:03.94. Ungo also earned an NCAA "B" cut in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.05. Both of the times in the butterfly events were also school-record marks. 

    Ungo was also a huge part of school-record marks in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays. In the 400 freestyle relay, Ungo posted a time of 51.08 in her 100 freestyle split. In the 800 freestyle relay, Ungo secured a time of 1:54.7 in her 200 freestyle split.

  • Swimmer of the Week
    Anton Akopian, Emmanuel

    A senior from West Drayton in the United Kingdom, Anton Akopian of Emmanuel was tremendous for the Lions in their appearance at the annual Fall Frenzy Invite in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

    Akopian secured an NCAA "B" cut in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.24 in the finals. He posted an even stronger time of 20.12 in the preliminaries. He also secured an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 44.07 in the finals of the 100 freestyle. The time is one of the top-five in all of NCAA Division II in the event. Impressively, Akopian also made the finals in all of his individual and relay events at the prestigious annual event.

  • Wrestler of the Week
    Franky Medina, King

    A senior from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Franky Medina of King recorded a stellar 7-0 overall record last week at 133 pounds. He was a perfect 2-0 in conference duals. 

    Medina claimed the 133-pound championship at the King Open by collecting three of his five matches via major decision. He also secured a win via a second-period pin. Medina bested Newberry's Ben Guilliam, 12-9, in a conference dual meet before also edging him, 2-1, in the King Open championship match.

  • Bowler of the Week
    Haley Powell, Lincoln Memorial

    A junior from Belvidere, Tennessee, Haley Powell of Lincoln Memorial averaged 211.83 over six games this past weekend at the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. 

    Powell bowled four games over 200 at the event, including a 248 in her fourth game. She also bowled a 240 in her second game.
