Emmanuel Earns No. 6 Seed in NCAA Southeast Regional
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Emmanuel won the 2023 Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Championship, their third conference title in six seasons, and received the automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship where they will face Southeast Region No. 3 seed Lander with a date and time to be announced inside Wingate’s Cuddy Arena in Wingate, North Carolina.
The Lions are 22-10 on the season, their second straight with 20-plus victories. The Franklin Springs, Georgia program is making its third trip to the NCAA Tournament. Emmanuel is the sixth seed in the region.
Lander fell in the Peach Belt tournament championship final. The Bearcats are 27-6 on the season and are 2-1 all-time against the Lions, however, Emmanuel defeated Lander in Franklin Springs on Oct. 24, a five-set thriller (26-24, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10).
The Lander-Emmanuel winner will square off against second-seeded Augusta (27-4) or seventh-seeded Tusculum (22-6) in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. In the other part of the bracket No. 1 Wingate (27-3), the Southeast Regional host, faces No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne (21-10) and No. 4 Anderson (25-5) faces No. 5 USC Aiken (16-10). The regional final will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
The 64-team field includes 23 automatic qualifiers and 41 at-large selections. The eight regional tournaments will be held on campus sites Nov. 30-Dec.3. The winners of the eight regional tournaments will advance to the quarterfinals to be held December 7. The semifinals are set for Dec. 8 with the national championship match on Dec. 9. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be played at the UMPC Events Center in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
