Conference Carolinas Well Represented on Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region Soccer Teams
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) released its 2023 All-Southeast Region men’s and women’s soccer teams on Tuesday and 11 Conference Carolinas student-athletes were recognized.
Five men and six women earned the honors representing six different institutions in Belmont Abbey, Chowan, Converse, Francis Marion, North Greenville and UNC Pembroke. The Braves had a league-best two first-team selections while Belmont Abbey led the way with five selections overall including one first-team honoree.
Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Year Mercy Bell and teammate Anna Grossheim were named to the all-region first team for UNC Pembroke. It’s the third straight season Grossheim has earned the accolade. Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Year Mia Muckenthaler, forward Logan Parry and midfielder Reagan Cullen represented Belmont Abbey on the second team where they were joined by defender Elainee Sprinkle of North Greenville.
The Conference Carolinas men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Year, midfielder Davis McBee of Belmont Abbey, and Defensive Player of the Year, defender Sebastian Garcia of Francis Marion, earned men’s first team recognition. Midfielder Walter Gomez of Belmont Abbey and defenders Harri Lovett of Chowan and Gabriel Verona of Converse were each named to the second team.
The D2 CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region’s sports information directors.
The D2 CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The D2 CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
The 13 members of the All-Southeast Region first team will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released Wednesday, Dec. 6. The complete All-Southeast region teams are availabe here.
