Emmanuel Falls in First Round of Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship

BOX SCORE | WINGATE, N.C.– The sixth-seeded Lions of Emmanuel fell in four sets to Lander in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball National Championship inside Cuddy Arena on the campus of Wingate on Friday afternoon.

In the first set, third-seeded Lander (28-6) started fast with a 7-1 rally and never trailed en route to the 25-16 win. It was the Lions (22-11) who took set two thanks to a late rally. Emmanuel scored the first three points but Lander tied the match and the team traded points until a Bearcats’ attack error broke a 14-14 tie. The Lions closed the set on an 11-5 run for the 25-19 win. 

The third set featured 10 ties and numerous lead changes until a Lions miscue broke a tie at 16 and led to a 9-2 run for Lander in a 25-18 win. In the decisive fourth set, the teams traded the lead early and often, but a Bearcats kill broke a tie at 11 and the Lions trailed the rest of the way. Emmanuel got within one point several times, but Lander scored the final three points for the 25-22 win.

Alaina Emminger paced the Lions’ offense with 12 kills and had four blocks while Jocelyn Martin added 11 kills. Gabrielle McGlamery dished out 35 assists and had 15 digs while Ellie Jackson had a team-best 18 digs with five kills and a block. The loss ends the season for Emmanuel.
