Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Gavin McFadden, Converse

    A junior from Rock Hill, South Carolina, Gavin McFadden of Converse collected the fastest 60m time in Conference Carolinas in the opening weekend of the season at the JDL Early Bird Invitational.

    McFadden posted a time of 6.84 in the event to also claim an NCAA provisional time.

    Ryan Wilson-McCoy, Mount Olive

    A freshman from Bealeton, Virginia, Ryan Wilson-McCoy of Mount Olive made a stellar debut at the Visit Winston-Salem Kick-off for the Trojans after hitting an NCAA Provisional standard and setting a new school record in the triple jump. 

    On his final attempt, he reached a distance of 14.61 meters (47-11.25 feet) to finish second overall behind Niejel Wilkins of Division I Appalachian State. Wilson-McCoy broke a school record in the triple jump, which had stood since 2019. He is one of two jumpers in the Southeast Region to establish an NCAA provisional standard this season.

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Eseose Okoduwa, Converse

    A junior from Columbia, South Carolina, Eseose Okoduwa of Converse put together a strong opening weekend at the JDL Early Bird Invitational. 

    Okoduwa won the 60-meter dash event with a time of 7.62 seconds, which was an NCAA provisional time. The time also set a new school record and is the best in Conference Carolinas early in the 2023-24 season. Okoduwa also captured the top time in Conference Carolinas so far this season in the 200 meters at 25.38. The time was also a school record. She set her third school record of the day in the long jump with a current conference-best leap of 5.55m. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Karla Hormazabal, Mount Olive

    A junior from Orlando, Florida, Karla Hormazabal of Mount Olive set a pair of conference qualifying standards in the triple jump and the high jump while opening the season at the Visit Winston-Salem Kick-Off this past Saturday. 

    Hormazabal claimed the event win with a distance of 11.49 meters (37-8.50 feet) in the triple jump, which is the best mark in the Southeast Region this year. Hormazabal also cleared 1.49 meters (4-10.50 feet) in the high jump to reach the league standard.

  • Wrestler of the Week
    Scott Joll, UNC Pembroke

    A graduate student from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Scott Joll of UNC Pembroke was a perfect 5-0 last week at 174 pounds with all five wins coming on pins. 

    Joll started the week with a league victory via pinfall over Emmanuel’s Connor Smith (0:57). He followed that up by going a perfect 4-0 at the Lander Duals. Joll is a perfect 10-0 on the season with eight pins.
