North Greenville’s No. 1 Ranking Highlights Weekly Rankings Update

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas had 17 teams ranked across nine sports headlined by North Greenville at No. 1 and UNC Pembroke at No. 5 in the baseball and men’s basketball polls, respectively.

  • The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the first regular season poll of the year and North Greenville, who is 7-0 to begin the season, remained atop the poll with 474 points and 18-of-19 first-place votes. Belmont Abbey was ranked 14th with 226 points while UNC Pembroke was 18th with 135 points. Unsurprisingly, NGU topped the Southeast Region poll with 110 points and all 11 first-place votes while Belmont Abbey was ranked third with 82 points and UNC Pembroke came in at No. 4 with 80 points.   • In the week 13 NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) regular season media poll for men’s basketball UNC Pembroke remained at No. 5 nationally with 366 points. In the Southeast Region poll, the Braves held the top spot in the region with 58 points and 4-of-6 first-place votes while Emmanuel climbed one spot to No. 7 with 24 points.     The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) also released its 13th regular season poll and UNC Pembroke, who is 25-1 on the season and 17-1 in league play, remained at No. 5 with 342 points. The poll is available here.

  • In the 12th edition of the D2SIDA women’s basketball regular season poll, Belmont Abbey was the first team to receive votes in the poll. In the Southeast Region poll, The Abbey was ranked third with 41 points while Francis Marion moved up two spots to No. 5 with 30 points and UNC Pembroke improved one spot to No. 8 with 14 points.     The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) also released its 12th regular season poll and Belmont Abbey, who is 17-1 in league play and 20-4 overall, continued to receive votes in the poll which is available here.

  • The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released the first regular-season poll and Belmont Abbey was ranked 20th with 34 points. The full poll is available here.

  • The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the NCAA Division II Men’s Top 25 Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point and Belmont Abbey received votes. The full poll is available here.

  • On the track, the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the fourth regional Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) and on the women’s side six Conference Carolinas institutions found themselves inside the top-15 led by Mount Olive at No. 4 with 230.94 points. Southern Wesleyan was sixth with 145.17 points, UNC Pembroke was 10th with 90.61 points, North Greenville was 12th with 65.44 points, Belmont Abbey was 14th with 49.50 points and Converse was 15th with 49.24 points. Erskine was 16th with 45.40 points and they were followed by King (20th, 18.95), Lees-McRae (21st, 12.59), Emmanuel (23rd, 10.94) and Barton (25th, 0.18). On the men’s side, Mount Olive ranked third with 226.54 points, UNC Pembroke was eighth with 122.91 points and North Greenville was 10th with 80.97 points. Southern Wesleyan was 12th with 71.78 points followed by Belmont Abbey (15th, 50.48), Emmanuel (17th, 34.08), Lees-McRae (18th, 29.21), Erskine (20th, 19.10), King (23rd, 12.48), Barton (25th, 8.76), and Converse (26th, 2.95).   • Off the Block released the week six NCAA Division II coaches poll and North Greenville continued to lead the league at No. 7 with 45 points while King climbed two spots to No. 8 with 31 points and Mount Olive was ranked 10th with eight points. Lees-McRae, Erskine and Belmont Abbey each received votes in the poll. The full poll is available here.

  • The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the fourth Division II wrestling regular-season rankings of the 2022-23 season and South Atlantic Conference Carolinas had four schools mentioned. Lander remained at No. 2 with 80 points while UNC Pembroke climbed one spot into a tie for 17th with 21 points. Lander had seven individuals ranked while the Braves had two. Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive each received votes in the poll. The full poll is available here

    In the NWCA individual rankings, the league had 11 individuals ranked including two at No. 1 in Logan Seliga of UNC Pembroke at 125-pounds and Zeth Brower of Lander at 141-pounds. James Joplin of Lander joined Seliga at 125-pounds at No. 4 while his teammate Elijah Lusk is ranked sixth at 133-pounds. John Carayainnis of Belmont Abbey joined Brower at 141-pounds and is ranked seventh. At 149-pounds Dallas Wilson of Mount Olive and Jack Piccirilli of UNC Pembroke are both ranked with Wilson No. 11 and Piccirilli 12th. David Hunsberger of Lander is ranked fourth at 165-pounds, Logan Hall is ranked sixth at 184-pounds, Anthony Yacovetti of Lander is sixth at 197-pounds and Juan Holmes of Lander is sixth at 285-pounds.     The final regular season Super Region II men’s wrestling rankings were released this week and Lander remained atop the poll with 98 total points followed by UNC Pembroke (85) and Newberry (74) to round out the top three. King is fourth with 58 points followed by Mount Olive (44), Belmont Abbey (43), Limestone (34), Emmanuel (30), Coker (14) and Lincoln Memorial. Lander had six individuals hold the top spot at 133, 141, 165, 184, 197 and 285 pounds. UNC Pembroke had two individuals claim the top spot at 125 and 157 pounds. Newberry (174) and Mount Olive (149) each had one individual top their weight class. The complete poll is available here.
