Record-Breaking Third Day at Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – It was a record-breaking third day of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Friday, Feb. 17.
 
The third day finals commenced with Emmanuel’s Susana Ungo setting the new championship mark in the women’s 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:26.07. Teammate Jan Michalak followed suit next by setting the men’s 400 Yard IM championship record with a time of 4:00.02.
 
Barton’s David Szlobodnyik set the new championship record in the men’s 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 48.02.
 
In the women’s 100 Yard Breaststroke, Emmanuel’s Diana Suprun recorded the new championship record with a time of 1:03.90. Teammate Isabell Schiller set the new championship record in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.11.
 
Emmanuel’s Mykhailo Semenov closed out the individual events on the third day of the championships by setting the new championship mark in the men’s 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 48.15.
 
The day closed with Emmanuel men’s (3:15.54) and women’s swimming (3:48.39) both setting new championship records in the 400 Yard Medley Relay.
 
Emmanuel leads the way after three days in both men’s and women’s swimming, but it’s a tight race in women’s swimming with Emmanuel’s 461 total points just ahead of UNC Pembroke’s 435. In men’s swimming the Lions have 533 total points with Lees-McRae in second with 372.
 
Conference Carolinas also held its annual senior festivities on Friday (video).

The fourth and final day of the scheduled four-day Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships are slated for Saturday, Feb. 18. The preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the finals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

The preliminaries and finals on the fourth and final day of the championships will be streamed live on the Conference Carolinas Digital Network at ConferenceCarolinasDN.com. Commentary will be provided for the finals, but the preliminaries on Saturday will just be video with no sound.
