Three Meet Records Fall on First Day of 2023 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships
RESULTS | WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It was a record-setting first day at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the 2023 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships as three meet records fell.
The first record came in the men’s distance medley relay where Emmanuel (Demarco Hernandez, Tre Buchanon, Felipe Barrios, Brandon Martin) won the event in a record time of 10:26.24 which bested the previous record of 10:29.33 set in 2014 by North Greenville. Runner-up Belmont Abbey (Brian Sause, Jesse Coleman, Adam Willett, Elliot Wunder) also broke the previous record with a time of 10:28.30.
Converse then followed suit in the women’s distance medley relay as they bested the 2017 mark of 12:50.01 by Barton with a first-place time of 12:46.36. Kamille Dixon, Latavia Bracey-Ransom, Bayley Robinson and Ruth Spijker represented the Valkyries in the record-setting effort.
In the field events, Mycherie Onwuzuruike of Southern Wesleyan stole the show as she won the women’s long jump with a meet record mark of 5.91m (19-4.75) which is also an NCAA Division II Provisional mark and ranks second in the Southeast Region and 15th in NCAA Division II this season.
After five scored events, Mount Olive leads the men’s standings with 62 points while UNC Pembroke sits atop the women’s standings with 49 points. North Greenville is second in the men’s standings with 30.5 points followed by UNC Pembroke with 24. On the women’s side, Mount Olive is second with 41 points while Converse is third with 25 points.
The final day of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships gets underway on Monday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. with men’s shot put, men’s triple jump and women’s pole vault. The track events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the men’s mile.
