Emily Bell of Barton and Jada Wilson of Lees-McRae Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Emily Bell of Barton and Jada Wilson of Lees-McRae were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending Feb. 19.
Bell was selected as the Player of the Week, while Wilson earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A senior playing second base for the Bulldogs, Bell hit an impressive .545 (6-for-11) in a 3-1 week for Barton as she accumulated a .636 slugging percentage and a .538 on-base percentage while driving in six and scoring four times. The Bunn, North Carolina native drove in at least one run and collected at least one hit in each contest on the week. In a 12-3 win over Virginia Union on Saturday, Feb. 18 she went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI with a walk and a sacrifice. She drove in a pair of runs with three hits in six at-bats in a split with Frostburg State before wrapping the week with a 2-for-3 day with one RBI and two runs scored in a 6-0 win over Virginia Union on Sunday.
A native of Valle Crucis, North Carolina, Wilson tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts in 3-0 wins over Newberry (Feb. 18) and Fairmont State (Feb. 19). Against the Wolves she tallied two strikeouts and four hits before taking a perfect game 6.1 innings against Fairmont State as she finished with a career-high seven strikeouts and two hits allowed in the win. She lowered her season ERA to 0.21 which leads Conference Carolinas and now has three shutouts on the season.
