Peyton Day of King and Jenna Walling of Francis Marion Earn Softball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Peyton Day of King and Jenna Walling of Francis Marion were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for softball for the week ending Feb. 26.
Day was selected as the Player of the Week, while Walling earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
A senior catcher for the Tornado, Day helped lead King to a sweep of Shepherd University as she hit .714 (5-for-7) with a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage. The Oak Ridge, North Carolina native drove in four runs and scored three times with three doubles in the wins. In game one on Sunday, March 26, she drove in two runs and scored twice as she had three hits, two doubles. In the second game she was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, one run scored and another double. Day is currently riding a 10-game hit streak and caught a runner stealing.
A freshman right-handed pitcher from Johns Island, South Carolina, Walling tossed 6.1 shutout innings in the Patriots’ 5-1 win over West Liberty University on Sunday, March 26. She allowed a pair of singles and walked two with two strikeouts while holding WLU to a .100 batting average. She is 7-0 on the season.
