Riley D'Andrea of Belmont Abbey and Claire Hagen of Mount Olive Earn Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Riley D'Andrea of Belmont Abbey and Claire Hagen of Mount Olive were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for women’s lacrosse for the week ending Feb. 26.
D’Andrea was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Hagen earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
A senior attack from Farmingdale, New York, D’Andrea was the offensive catalyst for the Crusaders in a 17-13 win over Young Harris who was receiving votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA National Poll. The reigning Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year scored seven goals in a contest for the fourth time in her career and added two assists for nine points in the win. She put seven of her nine shots on goal, collected two ground balls and had two caused turnovers. Her goal with 6:57 to play was the game-winner as it broke a 12-12 tie to give The Abbey the lead for good.
Hagen, a senior goalie from Prior Lake, Minnesota, got the win over No. 22 Roberts Wesleyan in her first start of the season as she collected 13 saves on 25 shots and had two ground balls in the Trojans 19-11 victory. In the first and third quarters she combined for eight saves and just four goals allowed.
