Barton Edges Erskine in Men’s Golf Preseason Poll
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas men’s golf coaches voted Barton to win the program’s third conference championship and first since 2009 in the preseason poll unveiled on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The Bulldogs, who finished second in last year’s event and are led by two-time defending Coach of the Year Derek Hamm, garnered 44 points and three of the seven first-place votes. Erskine, who returns reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Laurenz Meifels, was picked second with 43 points and three first-place nods while Mount Olive (39) and Belmont Abbey (30) rounded out the top four and the Trojans collected one first-place vote.
King, the defending conference champion, was selected fifth with 27 points and the remaining first-place vote and was followed by North Greenville (20), Emmanuel (14) and Chowan (7).
The spring season gets underway on Feb. 13 with the conference championships slated for April 23-25 at The Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, South Carolina.
